Weekly Recreation Report – February 5, 2016

Entries are starting to come in for the Farmers and Friends Bonspiel to be held on April 1st through 3rd this year. The Whitewood Curling Club is hoping for up to 64 teams to curl over the 3 days. This event includes a ton of prizes, entertainment and obviously some great curling. One of the highlights is expected to be the elimination draw on Saturday for a trip for 4 to Las Vegas. Each team will have an entry into the draw which makes for some great odds! Call Chad Kelly to register your rink today 735-7810.

Skaters from the Whitewood Skating Club had a great weekend at the regional competition in Esterhazy on January 30th and 31st. Simone Van’t Westeinde earned Gold in Star 2 free skate, Gold in jumps and Bronze in spins. Hunter Beutler earned Bronze in Star 2 free skate and spins. Tennessee Goodbrand earned Bronze in Star 4 spins, and Silver in Star 3 jumps and Star 4 freeskate. Cassidy Mannle earned Bronze in Star 2 freeskate and jumps. The girls competed together as a team in the Star 2 team event earning Silver. Congrats!

The Whitewood Orioles play two games this weekend to wrap up their regular season. On Friday night the Orioles host the Rocanville Tigers at 8:15pm at the Whitewood Community Centre. Then, on Saturday, the Orioles head to Theodore to take on the Buffs.

There will be a free automated external defibrillator (AED) clinic on Thursday February 18th at 3:30pm in the Whitewood Curling Rink lobby. This clinic will be taught by a certified instructor and will give participants more information and confidence about AED’s and how to use them. These lifesaving devices are becoming more common in public spaces including two at the Whitewood Community Centre and one at the Whitewood Swimming Pool. Contact the rec office (735-4415) for more information.

Until next week,
