Weekly Recreation Report – July 8, 2016

It’s your last chance to sign up for our third set of swimming lessons at the Whitewood Swimming Pool. This session will be running in the evenings from July 18th to the 29th with our qualified swim instructors. Levels from Preschool A, through Swimmer 6 and Rookie, Ranger, Star are available to sign up. Registration forms are available at the Town Office or on the Town of Whitewood website. Our fourth and final set of swimming lessons is scheduled to run in August from the 8th to the 19th.

We have a new addition to Larson Park. Our second basketball net has been installed and is ready to use. Lines are also painted for the full-size basketball court and tennis court. Stop by and use the provided equipment to shoot hoops, or hit the ball back and forth. Please return equipment when you are finished so everyone can have a turn.

Did you know that parks, open spaces, and natural areas are essential to ecological survival? One of the best ways to teach environmental education is through outdoor recreation! Get out and enjoy the many outdoor recreational opportunities in our area today.

Weekly Recreation Report – July 1, 2016

It’s time for the grand opening of the Whitewood Town Square! Join us at the corner of 4th and Lalonde on Wednesday July 6th at 5pm for the ribbon cutting ceremony and free burgers! Everyone is welcome and you are encouraged to bring your own lawn chairs.

We’re only 1 week away from the biggest golf tournament of the year. The 15th annual Chad and Blake Poncelet Memorial Golf Tournament will be a 9-Hole Texas Scramble hosted by the Whitewood Golf Club on Saturday July 9th. Registration is only $35 per person and there are tons of prizes, 3 different shotgun starts and a banquet Saturday night. Contact Elaine Balan for more information at 735-2317.

Larson Park is full of fastball this summer and next week is no exception. On Tuesday the Pipestone Valley Pistons host the Ochapowace Thunder at 6:30pm and on Thursday the Whitewood Falcons host the Fleming Jets at 6:30pm. As always admission to the games is free.

With July finally here the Whitewood Swimming Pool hours will be 12pm to 8pm, everyday, weekdays and holidays included. Stop by for a refreshing dip in our outdoor pool and take a run through the Richardson Pioneer Spray Park.

Weekly Recreation Report – June 24, 2016

Friday June 24th at 6:30pm in Larson Park the Whitewood Falcons are hosting the Southeast Mens Fastball League All-stars. The Falcons won the right to host the league all-stars by virtue of winning the championship in 2015. Admission to the game is free and should be a great game. Come out and support our local athletes.

Any avid golfers around? One of the biggest tournaments of the year is quickly approaching. The 15th annual Chad and Blake Poncelet Memorial Golf Tournament will be a 9-Hole Texas Scramble hosted by the Whitewood Golf Club on Saturday July 9th. There will be lots of prizes, 3 different shotgun starts and a banquet Saturday night at the Community Centre. Only $35 per person to register and you can do so by calling Elaine at 735-2317.

Register today for swimming lessons. There are three more sessions this summer to take in at the Whitewood Swimming Pool. Session 2 begins on July 4th, session 3 beings on July 18th and session 4 begins on August 8th. Prices range from $35 to $55 with a season pass or $55 to $75 without. Weekly Recreation Report – June 17, 2016

Larson Park is full of fastball next week. On Tuesday it’s the battle of Whitewood as the Pipestone Pistons host the Whitewood Falcons at 6:30pm. Wednesday there are two games as the U12 minor ball team host Moosomin and the U8 team host Grenfell. Thursday the Pipestone Pistons host the Moosomin Mavericks, at 6:30pm on diamond 1. Come out and support our local ball players!

The Whitewood Pool and Richardson Pioneer Spray Park are now open! Stop by and cool off from the heat. Season passes are available at the pool for $80 for individuals or $180 for families. The pool will be open from 12pm to 8pm on weekends in June and 4pm to 8pm on weekdays in June. The Richardson Pioneer Spray Park will be activated from 9am to 8pm, 7 days a week all summer.

Weekly Recreation Report – June 10, 2016

Stop by Larson Park on Saturday June 11th for the Whitewood Falcon’s Fastball Tournament. Joining the Falcons are the Pipestone Valley Pistons, Fleming Jets, Atwater Steelers, Cowesses Rampage, Regina Sarcan Selects, Chetty’s Pretty Boys and the Balcarres Bronx. Games start at 10am and continue all day until the finals at 5:30pm. Join us for a burger, beer and some great fastball action!

The Whitewood Pool and Richardson Pioneer Spray Park will be opening for the season on Wednesday June 15th! Stop by and cool off from the heat. Want to try something different? Head over to the tennis and basketball court adjacent to the Whitewood Swimming Pool. Racquets, tennis balls and basketballs are all provided free of charge for you to use! Please return equipment to the bins once you’re finished with it so everyone has a chance to use it.

Weekly Recreation Report – June 3, 2016

Come join us at the Whitewood Community Centre this weekend at the 3rd annual Ringleader Roller Girls Block Party tournament. There are teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba vying for the title this year with games starting Saturday morning at 9am. Games are ongoing all day Saturday and Sunday with the championship final at 3pm.

Make sure you come out to Larson Park on Saturday June 11th for the Whitewood Falcon’s Fastball Tournament. Not only will there be tons of great ball all weekend but also the canteen will be serving hotdogs and hamburgers starting at 11am and a beer gardens will be located behind diamond 1. Games start at 9am on both diamonds with the finals at 7pm on diamond 1. See you at the park!

Weekly Recreation Report – May 27, 2016

The 3rd annual Ringleader Roller Girls Block Party tournament is coming up on June 4th and 5th at the Whitewood Community Centre. Competing this year are the Weyburn Strait Jackettes, Winnipeg Bombshell Brawlers, Saskatoon Killa Bees, Moose Jaw Jawbreakers, Swift Current Redneck Betties and the Rebelles of Rocky View (Airdrie, AB). First game is Saturday at 9am and continues all day until 9pm. The first game on Sunday is at 10am with the finals at 3pm. Our local skaters are a part of the Weyburn Strait Jackettes and there is sure to be a ton of great competition all weekend.

There is one last weekend to sign up and ensure a t-shirt for the Whitewood Fun Run/Walk. The t-shirt deadline is officially extended by one week. Sign up by May 30th and you will receive a race shirt, finisher medal, breakfast and entry into all the door prizes. To register, head on over to events.runningroom.com and search for the Whitewood Fun Run. The cost is $35 for adults, and $20 for youth under 18 years of age. This non-competitive event starts at 8am on the morning of June 26th.

The swimming pool is looking great after its facelift so what better time to buy your season pass then today? Information is available on the Town of Whitewood website regarding lessons, passes and special events. A family pass for the 2016 season is $180 and a single pass is $80. If you need more information or want to get your passes, contact the rec office at 735-4415.

Weekly Recreation Report – May 20, 2016

The Whitewood Falcons and Pipestone Valley Pistons open their seasons this Tuesday, May 24th. The Falcons host the Kipling Oilers at 6:30pm at Larson Park and the Pistons are in Moosomin to take on the Mavericks. Thursday is the Pistons home opener at Larson Park as they welcome the Fleming Jets. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30pm will feature a home game for one of these two teams so get out and enjoy some free evening entertainment.

The first registration deadline for the Whitewood Fun Run/Walk is getting close. Monday May 24th is the last day you can register to guarantee yourself a t-shirt for this awesome event. However, the race still needs a few more registrations to ensure a minimum number of runners is met. This fun, non-competitive event allows walking so if you have been considering registering head on over to tiny.cc/whitewoodfunrun today. Your registration gets you a ton of awesome perks including a race t-shirt, finisher medal, breakfast, door prize entry and more.

Registrations are being accepted for swimming lessons at the Whitewood Swimming Pool. Full details including dates, times, costs and forms are available at townofwhitewood.ca/pool/. The second set of lessons beginning July 4th are almost full and other sessions are filling up quickly. The Whitewood Ladies Fastball team is putting the call out for players for the summer. Any women with or without experience playing are asked to contact Kate Leepart at akleepart@gmail.com to join the team.

The flat track stars of Saskatchewan are coming to Whitewood. Yes it’s almost time for the 3rd annual Block Party Roller Derby Tournament at the Whitewood Community Centre. The Ring Leader Roller Girls are hosting teams from all over Saskatchewan on the weekend of June 4th and 5th for some hard-hitting, rock’em sock’em derby. More details to come next week!

Weekly Recreation Report – May 13, 2016

Register today for the Whitewood Fun Run this June 26th. Whitewood is hosting a 2.5k, 5k and 10k fun run on the morning of Sunday, June 26th. Your registration gets you a ton of goodies including a race shirt, medal, pancake breakfast and an entry into all the door prizes. To register, head on over to events.runningroom.com and search for the Whitewood Fun Run. The cost is $35 for adults, and $20 for youth under 18 years of age. Register by May 24th to guarantee your t-shirt!

The Whitewood Swimming Pool is accepting registrations for swimming lessons for 2016. There are four sets of lessons this season with the first set of lessons running in the evenings from June 20th to July 1st, the second set is in the mornings from July 4th to July 15th, the third set is evenings from July 18th to July 29th and the final set is mornings from August 8th to August 19th. Cost for lessons is $35 to $55 with a season pass or $55 to $75 without. Season passes are $180 for a family or $80 for a single and daily rates are still $4.00 for seniors/children, $5.00 for adults and $15.00 for families. Registration forms are available at townofwhitewood.ca/pool/.
