Weekly Recreation Report – May 20, 2016

The Whitewood Falcons and Pipestone Valley Pistons open their seasons this Tuesday, May 24th. The Falcons host the Kipling Oilers at 6:30pm at Larson Park and the Pistons are in Moosomin to take on the Mavericks. Thursday is the Pistons home opener at Larson Park as they welcome the Fleming Jets. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30pm will feature a home game for one of these two teams so get out and enjoy some free evening entertainment.

The first registration deadline for the Whitewood Fun Run/Walk is getting close. Monday May 24th is the last day you can register to guarantee yourself a t-shirt for this awesome event. However, the race still needs a few more registrations to ensure a minimum number of runners is met. This fun, non-competitive event allows walking so if you have been considering registering head on over to tiny.cc/whitewoodfunrun today. Your registration gets you a ton of awesome perks including a race t-shirt, finisher medal, breakfast, door prize entry and more.

Registrations are being accepted for swimming lessons at the Whitewood Swimming Pool. Full details including dates, times, costs and forms are available at townofwhitewood.ca/pool/. The second set of lessons beginning July 4th are almost full and other sessions are filling up quickly. The Whitewood Ladies Fastball team is putting the call out for players for the summer. Any women with or without experience playing are asked to contact Kate Leepart at akleepart@gmail.com to join the team.

The flat track stars of Saskatchewan are coming to Whitewood. Yes it’s almost time for the 3rd annual Block Party Roller Derby Tournament at the Whitewood Community Centre. The Ring Leader Roller Girls are hosting teams from all over Saskatchewan on the weekend of June 4th and 5th for some hard-hitting, rock’em sock’em derby. More details to come next week!

Weekly Recreation Report – May 13, 2016

Register today for the Whitewood Fun Run this June 26th. Whitewood is hosting a 2.5k, 5k and 10k fun run on the morning of Sunday, June 26th. Your registration gets you a ton of goodies including a race shirt, medal, pancake breakfast and an entry into all the door prizes. To register, head on over to events.runningroom.com and search for the Whitewood Fun Run. The cost is $35 for adults, and $20 for youth under 18 years of age. Register by May 24th to guarantee your t-shirt!

The Whitewood Swimming Pool is accepting registrations for swimming lessons for 2016. There are four sets of lessons this season with the first set of lessons running in the evenings from June 20th to July 1st, the second set is in the mornings from July 4th to July 15th, the third set is evenings from July 18th to July 29th and the final set is mornings from August 8th to August 19th. Cost for lessons is $35 to $55 with a season pass or $55 to $75 without. Season passes are $180 for a family or $80 for a single and daily rates are still $4.00 for seniors/children, $5.00 for adults and $15.00 for families. Registration forms are available at townofwhitewood.ca/pool/.

Any women interested in playing fastball this summer? The Whitewood Ladies Fastball team is looking for interested players who want to get out on the field, throw the ball around, and hit a few dingers. Anyone who wants to lace’em up and join the team should contact Kate Leepart at akleepart@gmail.com.

The Whitewood Falcons are looking to three-peat as Southeast Men’s Fastball League champions this year. The team will play their games on Tuesdays and Thursdays like in years past and are expected to start their season in Whitewood on May 24th. The Pipestone Valley Pistons are also back and will again be playing out of Larson Park in Whitewood. That means every Tuesday and Thursday beginning May 24th through to July 7th will feature a fastball game in Whitewood!

Weekly Recreation Report – April 29, 2016

The Whitewood Slo-Pitch League is entering its 3rd season with games beginning on Friday May 6th. The league is looking to add one more team to play on Friday nights to increase the league to 6 teams in total. Please contact the rec office at 735-4415 ASAP if you want to be that 6th team. Any individuals looking to get added to a team should also contact the rec office and you will be paired up with a team captain.

Tickets are still available for the April 29th production of “How I Met Your Mummy”. This is the 16th year our local community drama group has been performing in Whitewood and they want to see as many people out as they can. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Donna Beutler at 735-7976.

The weather has been cooperating and I’m happy to report that our ball diamonds are ready to use for the season! Whitewood is proud to have two fully-fenced competition ball diamonds with dugouts, one with scoreboard and shale infield. If you are interested in using the ball diamonds please note that regularly scheduled minor ball, senior fastball and slo-pitch takes precedence. If you wish to get booked onto the diamond’s schedule contact the recreation office at 735-4415. There is no cost to use the ball diamonds for games and practices. Tournament rentals are $100 for one day, $150 for two days.

Weekly Recreation Report – April 15, 2016

We’re only a week away from the first production of “How I Met Your Mummy” by the Not So Famous People’s Players. Our local drama group has been practicing regularly all month and is excited to put on another show for our community. Tickets are sold out for the final performance on April 30th but are still available for performances on Saturday April 23rd and Friday April 29th. Contact Donna Beutler (735-7976) to purchase your ticket today.

2016 is the 3rd year for the Whitewood Slo-Pitch League and anyone interested in having a team should plan to attend the captain’s meeting on Monday April 25th. Games are Friday nights starting in mid-May and continue until the end of June. For more information contact the rec office at 735-4415.

Interested in learning how to derby? There will be regular roller derby practices in Whitewood throughout the summer starting Friday April 22nd at 7pm. Practices will be Friday’s in May and June and Monday’s in July and August from 7pm to 9pm at the Whitewood Community Centre.

The Recreation Office will be closed April 18th to the 21st, reopening on Friday April 22nd. If you need information or assistance with anything regarding the recreation department during that time please contact the Town Office at 735-2210.

Weekly Recreation Report – April 8, 2016

It’s almost time for the annual Whitewood Orioles NHL Playoff Draft and Dinner. This year’s draft is being held on Friday April 15th in the Whitewood Curling Rink. Doors open at 4pm for drinks with dinner at 6:30pm followed by the draft right after. Contact Rhett Parks (735-7813) or Braden Arnason (740-8850) to register your team today!

This is a call for teams interested in participating in the 2016 Whitewood Slo-Pitch League. Last year we had an exciting season with 4 teams playing on Fridays in May and June before a yearend tournament. We will have a league planning meeting on Monday April 25th at 7pm in the Curling Rink Lobby. The league is tentatively scheduled to start on Friday May 13th and culminating with the yearend tournament on Saturday June 25th. Any interested teams should send a representative to vote on league schedule, format, and rules. For more information and to declare your interest please contact Matt at 735-1366.

April means the Not So Famous People’s Players are gearing up for their 2016 performances at the Whitewood Community Centre. This year’s performance is titled How I Met Your Mummy and should provide ample laughs like always. Show dates are Saturday April 23rd, Friday April 29th and Saturday April 30th. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased Donna Beutler at 735-7976.

With the ice out at the Whitewood Community Centre we are now taking floor bookings for the summer season. If you want to use either side for your event, practice, game, meeting, gathering or wedding give the recreation office a call at 735-4415.

Weekly Recreation Report – April 1, 2016

On Wednesday April 6th from 5pm to 7pm the Whitewood Community Centre is hosting our Spring Recreation Information Night. Both Whitewood Soccer Association and Whitewood Minor Ball will be taking registrations for the summer season along with lots of other local community groups. Come out and see all the different summer sport culture and recreation opportunities in our community.

This Saturday, April 2nd at 10am is your first chance to buy tickets for the Not So Famous People’s Players 2016 performances. Tickets are $30 and include choice of seating for the show How I Met Your Mummy. Show dates this year are Saturday April 23rd, Friday April 29th and Saturday April 30th. Weekly Recreation Report – March 25, 2016

Join us at the Whitewood Community Centre for our Spring Recreation Information night on Wednesday April 6th from 5pm to 7pm. That night will be both the Whitewood Soccer Association’s registration and Whitewood Minor Ball’s registration. Not only will it be minor ball and minor soccer’s registration but our other local service groups will be on hand to answer your questions and let everyone know what they do. The Farmers and Friends Bonspiel is gearing up to be an awesome weekend of curling at the Whitewood Community Centre. Come join us for Friday night for wings, Calcutta and farm services auction, Saturday night karaoke or just to watch any of the curling action. First draw is Thursday night at 6:30pm with draws Friday night, all day Saturday and all day Sunday.

The Not So Famous People’s Players are kicking off their ticket drive on Saturday, April 2nd from 10am to 11:30am in the skating rink lobby. Tickets are $30 this day only and include assigned seating for the performance of your choice. Performances of How I Met Your Mummy, are on April 23rd, April 29th and April 30th. Weekly Recreation Report – March 18, 2016

Spring is just around the corner and Whitewood Recreation is going to be hosting a Recreation Information Night at the beginning of April. Details are still being worked out but our summer activity organizations will all be under one roof at the Whitewood Community Centre where you can get all the information you need about participating in 2016. Watch this space next week for more details!

The Arena ice will be transformed into 5 curling sheets starting on Easter weekend. That means this upcoming week is your last chance to get on the ice and skate. Public Skating is available on Sunday March 20th from 4pm to 6pm, Tuesday March 22nd from 3pm to 5pm and Thursday March 24th from 3pm to 5pm. There are also new Free Skates scheduled on Friday March 18th from 4pm to 8pm, Saturday March 19th from 12pm to 6pm, Sunday March 19th from 12pm to 4pm and Thursday March 24th from 11am to 3pm. The Farmers and Friends Bonspiel is sold out and that means it is going to be an awesome weekend of curling at the Whitewood Community Centre. Weekly Recreation Report – March 11, 2016

Join our outstanding Whitewood Atom Elks teams as they both look to bring home Major Hockey League banners. The Atom Orange Elks are playing the Preeceville Pats in the Atom A final and the Atom Black Elks are facing Yorkton in the Atom B final. Atom Orange will be playing the Pats in Whitewood on Wednesday March 16th at 6:45pm and the Atom Black Elks will be hosting Yorkton on Thursday March 17th at 6:45pm. Come cheer on the Elks to a pair of championships!

Make your way to the Whitewood Community Centre this Saturday March 12th at 2pm for the annual Whitewood Skating Club Carnival. The theme of this year’s carnival is “Under-The-Big-Top” and it should make for a great show. Admission is just $5 and helps to support our future skating stars!

The Fire-On-Ice Charity hockey game is this Friday March 11th at 8pm. The Railer Rats are facing the Whalers in what is sure to be a great game. Donations will be accepted at the door to go towards the Whitewood Fire Department. There are lots of other things planned so come on out to the rink tonight!

The Whitewood Senior 49ers Bonspiel is this upcoming week on March 14th, 15th, and 16th. There are 16 teams registered looking to take home the A flight championship. Besides some fun curling there will be a banquet on Wednesday evening and draws throughout.

Thursday March 24th will be the last day for hockey activities at the arena. The Community Centre will be closed on Good Friday and on Saturday the 25th work beings transforming the arena into another 5 curling sheets for the Farmers and Friends bonspiel.
