In downtown Whitewood you will find the completely restored Merchant’s Bank Heritage Centre located at 714 Lalonde Street. This jewel of a building houses an interpretive display featuring the story of the French Counts of St. Hubert. These aristocrates tried to form the “most glamorous settlement in the west.” They made Whitewood the French Count Capital of North America. The Heritage Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday from the May long weekend to August 31. It is heated year around, so it can viewed at anytime by contacting 735-2380 or 735-2210. Admission free
The Fleur de Lis gift shop is located within the Heritage Centre. It contains local arts and crafts as well as items commemorating the French settlements.
