Our name comes from the intersection of two major highways: the Trans Canada Highway and Saskatchewan Highway #9. By 1882, the Town of Whitewood, Assiniboia, had become a major stop on the new Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Town, named for the clumps of white poplar in the area, grew steadily and was officially incorporated in 1892.
